Arathy Manoharan has spent more than a decade working in the field of Deaf education, working to promote Deaf Indians’ access to bilingual education and human rights.
Arathy Manoharan is the co-founder of ISL Connect an organization that works with young Deaf people from India to ensure that they receive the same human rights as those who are not Deaf by providing access to quality sign bilingual educational services. Arathy earned a master’s degree from the University of Delhi in English Literature and earned a master in bilingual Deaf Education from McDaniel College in Maryland, U.S.A. She currently works at Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD) in Washington, D.C. as the Coordinator of Instructional Support, having worked at MSSD for the last several years as an English teacher. Over the past 12 years, she has led several workshops working with school teachers, administrators, and Deaf community members across India on educational strategies, including but not limited to a focus on supporting literacy skills among Deaf children and adults.
